FASD Seminar for parents: Fetal alcohol spectrum disorders
FASD Seminar for parents: Fetal alcohol spectrum
disorders via zoom.
Dr Alan Price is a research fellow at the University of Salford. He is
part of the Salford FASD research team led by Professor Penny
Cook in partnership with Dr Raja Mukherjee at the National FASD
clinic in Surrey. Dr Price’s FASD research focuses on interventions
and support, prevalence, and the compounding impact of adverse
childhood experiences. He has written and delivered a parent
training programme for caregivers of children with FASD and was
involved in the first gold-standard estimate of the prevalence of
FASD in the UK.
This introductory seminar will provide an overview of FASD
covering the history and development of the field, the presentation
of FASD and how it is diagnosed, the prevalence of FASD in
general and special populations, mechanisms of harm caused by
prenatal alcohol exposure, complexities around multiple
exposures, current guidelines for professionals, and interventions
and support for FASD including treatments and prevention.
The talk will last around 50-60 minutes and there will be around 30
minutes for questions.
